2020 Summer Camps for Rising 5th & 6th Graders
Summer camp at The Schiele Museum is a unique experience full of excitement for exploring science and the natural world. Participants can look forward to hands-on activities and a variety of learning experiences within the museum, outdoors on the Nature Trail, and on carefully selected trips in the local community. Organized activities begin each day at 9 AM and end at 4 PM. Every participant is invited to participate in our extended day program that allows drop-off as early as 7:30 AM and pick-up at late as 5:30 PM at no additional charge.
Camp 501: Can You Dig It?
June 15 - 19, 2020
Dig in to discover the differences between archeology, geology, and paleontology. Get hands-on while exploring how each of these sciences studies treasures from the earth to reveal stories about our past.
Camp 502: Junior Zookeeper
June 22 - 26, 2020
Discover what is takes to become a zookeeper. Explore the complexities of animal care while learning about animals from cockroaches to snakes to farm animals. Help staff with activities that provide nutritious food and healthy homes for the museum’s live animals.
Camp 503: Go for the Gold
June 29 – July 3, 2020
Return to the days of Ancient Greece and the first Olympics to discover the origins of games and contests of strength, speed, and agility. Showcase your skills while participating in mock Olympic trials!
Camp 504: La Femme STEM
July 6 - 10, 2020
Curious about what makes bath bombs fizz, or perfumes smell so sweet? Explore a week of unique, beauty-inspired science experiments, and create some neat take-home products of your own.
Camp 505: Make-It Summer
July 13 - 17, 2020
This camp is totally hands-on where you get to make things such as slime, marshmallow launchers, lip balm, bubble paintings and so much more! Get crafty and unleash your inner artist!
Camp 506: Superman-imals
July 20 - 24, 2020
Explore the superpowers of live creatures, explore different types of adaptations and habitats and learn how you can use your own skills to help animals survive.
Camp 507: Ag Adventures
July 27 - 31, 2020
iscover how plants and animals have helped to shape our community for generations, then get down and dirty on the farm to learn how we can still benefit from them today.
Camp 508: The Scoop on Scat
August 3 - 7, 2020
Explore a tactful blend of science and fun to discover how animals use their waste to build homes, send messages, and how scientists can use it to identify animals based on their diets.
Camp 509: Back to the Future
August 10 - 14, 2020
Join Marty McFly and Doc Brown on an epic adventure as they travel in time. Journey through the decades and discover how our culture changes over the years, and maybe learn a thing or two about the future!
Camp 510: It’s Snot So Gross
August 17 - 21, 2020
Make fake snot, design phony poo, find out how germy your hands really are, and more! Young grossologists will get knee-deep in experiments to learn the science of some human body functions.
