Animal Husbandry & Education
Volunteers will work directly with animal care staff in efforts to provide proper care for The Schiele Museum live animal collection. The animal collection is divided into three areas: indoor exhibits, education/ambassador collection and the outdoor farm. Volunteers may work in one or any of these areas. Volunteers are to be trained and supervised by the Live Animal Manager and staff according to husbandry standards and protocols in place. Opportunities to provide support in animal education efforts are available to those who qualify based on the Live Animal Manager’s standards.
Volunteers will work with the Planetarium Administrator in efforts to support planetarium programs in the dome and “on the floor” public programs outside of the dome." Various topics a volunteer might encounter are astronomy, meteorology, and other related science fields. Activities conducted by the volunteer will be easy to execute. Background knowledge of the topics is encouraged but not required.
Volunteers will provide support to staff during youth programming events including summer day camps and camp-in events. Volunteers will be required to work directly with children and Schiele Museum staff to ensure their proper care and safety.
Anthropology & Farm Education
Volunteers will provide support in programming covering anthropological and agricultural topics as well as the upkeep and maintenance of outdoor exhibit space. Much of the work in this position takes place outside.
Volunteers will provide support for the STEMS Outreach program in the presentation of outreach programs to schools, libraries, and other clients. This will aid in the expansion of the outreach program allowing the resources of The Schiele Museum to reach further into the community.
Exhibit Design & Construction
Volunteers will work under the supervision and guidance of exhibits staff to aid the in the creation and construction of museum exhibits. Skills in related fields are an added asset however, the ability to follow instruction and learn new skills is welcome.
