When is Kid’s Quest offered?

The program is offered 2:30 PM - 6 PM Monday – Friday unless there is a school holiday or teacher workday.  First day is Monday, August 23.  On planned early dismissal days, the program is extended during the day at no charge.

 

Does the program operate when school is dismissed for inclement weather?

No.  For the safety of our participants and employees, the program will not operate when Gaston County Schools closes to students for inclement weather or if school is switched to a remote learning day.

 

Is the program offered to students at my child’s school?

Due to our limited capacity, we are only offering Kid’s Quest to students at Gardner Park, Piedmont Charter, Robinson, and Sherwood elementary schools.

 

My child will be entering kindergarten in the Fall, can they participate?

Yes. This program is offered to children currently K - 5th grade.

 

How will my child get to the museum after school?

Schiele staff will pick up students in a passenger van at their school site and drive them to the museum. The museum has booster seats for students that require them. Students will need to be picked up from the museum by 6 PM.

 

I'm a Schiele Member, do I get a discount?

YES - Schiele Members receive a reduced rate.

 

What does my child need to participate?

Each child should simply bring their take home materials from school and anything they would need to complete homework.

 

Is snack provided?

There will be an afternoon snack provided each day once students arrive at the museum.

 

What precautions does the Schiele take to ensure safety?

Schiele Museum visitors and staff are required to wear masks. We are taking every precaution to keep your children safe while they are participating in our programs. We are constantly evaluating our policies and procedures to follow the current recommended health and safety guidelines as recommended by the CDC and local and state officials. As required, the Schiele may also administer daily temperature checks at school pick-up.  We continue to promote frequent handwashing, provide access to hand sanitizer, and maintain practical social distancing. 

 

Will my child have to wear a mask?

Yes. As part of the current guidelines from the CDC and the City of Gastonia, participants will be required to wear a mask.

 

Will you be offering assistance with homework?

Yes. The Schiele staff will be there to help monitor your child while they are at the museum and encourage them to complete their school work. Each child will participate in a designated homework period and staff will be available to assist.  While we cannot guarantee each child will complete all assignments and ascertain accuracy, staff will make effort to assist participants with their work.  Participants are encouraged to read if they complete their homework before the period ends.

 

What are the Kid’s Quest fees?

Participation is $90 per child for Schiele Museum members and $110 per child for non-members.  Non-members are encouraged to join the Schiele to receive the discount. There is no registration fee required.

 

Is there a full-day option for days out-of-school?

There is a full-day program for teacher workdays.  The fee for this program is $35 per child for members and $40 per child for non-members.  Participants should bring their lunch on full-days.  There is no program for most school holidays, but the full-day program will be held each day during the end of winter break, January 3 – 7. 

 

Is there a discount for additional children?

With very limited capacity, the program requires the same fee for each additional child.  However, a family membership allows for the member rate for each child in your family.

 

When is payment required?

Payment will be required monthly to guarantee your spot. Invoices will be created during the preceding month and emailed to parents.  Fees are based on the actual number of Kid’s Quest weeks for that month, and prorated for any holidays.  Full-day participation for any teacher work days will be included in your monthly invoice.

 

How do I register?

First, complete and submit the online information form found here.  You will then be contacted by our scheduling coordinator.  Payment for the first month of participation will be required to register your child.
